Kernpunkte

An avalanche warning remains in effect. Very strong winds and lots of new snow continue to create dangerous avalanche conditions. During the past four days the mountains have received nearly 45 inches of new snow with up to 4.5 inches of moisture. Large natural avalanches are likely and human triggered avalanches are very likely. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Snowfall is expected to continue overnight and into the day with additional accumulations of five to ten inches. Temperatures on Monday will rise into the 20s in the mountains. Winds will be westerly at 20 to 30 miles per hour with gusts to near 50 miles per hour. An avalanche warning remains in effect. Strong west winds and new snow will continue to load avalanche starting zones and cause natural avalanche activity. Natural and human triggered slab avalanches up to four feet in depth are likely and could step down to depths of six feet. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be HIGH in the Greys River/Southwest Trails areas and the higher elevations of the Teton and Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass areas. A CONSIDERABLE hazard is possible at the lower elevations of the Teton and Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass areas. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended in areas with high hazard.
