Forecast Snow Stability: Localised unstable windslab persisting overnight, mainly in wind sheltered places around high coire rims and gully tops on North-East to South-East aspects above 900m. As the temperatures rise from daybreak Friday any instabilities will diminish and the snowpack will stabilise throughout. Any snow cover at lower elevations will disappear. Any cornices present will be liable to collapse during the day. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Winds remaining strong Westerly Thursday evening backing SW then veering W during the day, remaining strong on the tops. Freezing level around 600m Thursday evening, then rising to above summit levels by day break before lowering to around 900 metres by the end of the day. A dry evening with sleet and snow at summit levels turning to summit snows at end of day. Observed Weather Influences: Strong to gale force North-Westerly winds during the day. Precipitation falling as snow sometimes persistent and heavy above 350 metres and drifting at higher elevations. Colder with a freezing level around 500 metres. ObservedSnowStability: There is a general cover of thin unconsolidated snow mostly above 400m on all aspects, deeper in pockets and hollows but stable. Some isolated accumulations of unstable windslab is present above 900 metres on North-Easterly through East to Southerly aspects. These deposits are confined to wind sheltered places in gully tops and coire rims. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
