The snowpack will be well bonded in all aspects. Even in moderately steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the icy crust. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular on shady slopes above the tree line. Ski touring and other off-piste activities, including snowshoe hiking, call for caution and restraint.

The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften during the day, in particular on sunny slopes below approximately 2700 m. Adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as in high Alpine regions snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
