The new snow and wind slabs are lying on the unfavourable surface of an old snowpack in particular on steep shady slopes above the tree line. They can as before be released, even by a single winter sport participant and reach medium size. Remotely triggered avalanches are possible. Backcountry touring and other off-piste activities call for extensive experience in the assessment of avalanche danger and careful route selection. In starting zones where no previous releases have taken place and in steep rocky terrain many medium-sized moist and wet avalanches are to be expected as a consequence of warming, especially in case of releases originating from starting zones above the tree line. In the typical avalanche paths the avalanches can in isolated cases reach intermediate altitudes.

Over a wide area 50 to 70 cm of snow has fallen since Wednesday. The sometimes storm force wind has transported the new snow significantly, especially adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas above approximately 2600 m. The snowpack will be generally subject to considerable local variations. Towards its surface, the snowpack is unfavourably layered. This applies in particular on shady slopes,. The high temperatures from the early morning will give rise to significant moistening of the snowpack in all regions.

Up to 25 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall on Tuesday. The avalanche danger will not decrease for the time being.
