Avalanche Activity

Small glide-snow avalanches possible

Small-to-medium glide-snow avalanches are still possible. Caution urged below glide cracks. In very steep terrain, small loose wet-snow avalanches can be expected, these can also be triggered by 1 person in steep terrain. Danger of being swept along and being forced to take a fall should be taken into consideration.

Snowpack Structure

At intermediate altitudes the snowpack is thoroughly moist, wet at ground level. Clouds passing through will hamper nocturnal longwave outgoing radiation, a crust capable of bearing loads cannot form easily. About 10 cm of fresh snow is expected, it will bond well with the old snowpack surface. Warm ground and the wet snowpack base reinforce the gliding movements of the entire snowpack. Very little snow on the ground below 1200-1500 m.

Weather Forecast

Nocturnal hours: Skies will be heavily overcast, but it will remain dry. Tuesday daytime: Heavily overcast and foggy, reduced visibility, increasingly wet. Below 1400-1100 m initially rainfall. All in all, 10 cm of fresh snow anticipated.. At 2000 m: -1 degree. Light westerly winds.

Tendency

Wednesday will bring snowfall down to low lying areas. Depending on the amounts, avalanche danger levels could increase.
