Avalanche Activity

Gradual increase in avalanche danger as the precipitation becomes more intense.

Over a wide area over a wide area 25 to 40 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall above approximately 1500 m. More recent wind slabs are covered with new snow and therefore difficult to recognise. Not yet all starting zones have released the snow entirely. In particular in the regions with a lot of snow and above the tree line more large dry avalanches are possible. As the snowfall becomes more intense the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase. Towards the evening danger level 4 (high) will be reached above the tree line. The current avalanche situation calls for experience in the assessment of avalanche danger.

Snowpack Structure

In all altitude zones a lot of snow is already lying. As a consequence of snowfall and the southeasterly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on a hard crust. The new snow will become increasingly prone to triggering. The meteorological conditions will cause a gradual rise in the danger of dry avalanches in the afternoon.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will increase. This applies in particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation.
