Avalanche Activity

Heed snowdrift accumulations

Fresh and older snowdrifts, mostly thin and small, can trigger by large additional loading. Danger zones are numerous in E/S/SW aspects, in steep bowls, behind steep protruberances. Triggered avalanches can grow to medium size.

Snowpack Structure

The terrain is utterly windblown. Hard crusts lie adjacent to easily recognized snowdrift accumulations in protected zones (forest rims, bowls). The snowdrifts lie often atop weak layers and melt-freeze crusts.

Weather Synopsis

On Thursday, good visibility. A few high altitude cloudbanks will pass through. The NW winds will remain irritating (30-50 km/hr). At 2000 m: -1 degree. Friday will bring heavy cloud cover, limited visibility, some snowfall in the morning accompanied by moderate to strong to stormy NW winds. The snowfall will slacken off in the afternoon. Temperatures will drop. At 2000 m: -8 degrees.

Tendency

As a result of fresh snow and winds, the frequency of danger zones will increase on Friday.
