Small pockets of windslab may form in the afternoon.

Unlikely to be of consequence with forecasted snow totals.

Avoid areas of obvious loading if deeper than 10cm.

Current Snowpack Conditions

Surface conditions are extremely variable after recent high winds and solar effect.

Steep/sunny slopes as well as windward (W/SW) are firm with a crust.

In the shade and lower angle/sheltered gullies cold snow still exists with active faceting occurring near the surface. This is "drying" the snow surface and increasing ski quality.

The lower snow pack is generally well consolidated.

Mountain Weather

A cloudy and windy day ahead. Some light snow showers developing. Strong - Gale N winds. FAFL 1500m rising to 1800.

Sliding Danger

Areas exposed to sun and wind have become firm. Utilising an ice axe and/or crampons is a good idea and exercise caution in exposed areas.

Forecast Confidence

Moderate

  • The snowpack structure is well understood.

Recent Avalanche Activity

A small loose wet out of steep and sunny terrain on Wednesday afternoon.
