Kernpunkte

Areas of MODERATE danger persist primarily along the upper elevations on many aspects, notably those facing north through east. Human triggered avalanches 12-18" deep are possible.

The best and safest riding remains on sun and wind-sheltered slopes less than 35° in steepness.

You'll still be able to trigger lingering pockets of soft slab avalanches on many aspects above about 9000'. They are most prominent on north to east facing slopes. Cracking and collapsing may not be evident as an easy clue to instability. Similarly, a quick hand pit or shovel test on this slope may not reveal much information about that slope. Many different weak layer interfaces are in play and they vary with location to location.

When things get spotty and complicated, dial it back and make it simple: All of these avalanches had this in common - slope angle.

If snow is the question, terrain is the answer - The skiing and riding remains excellent on lower angle slopes.

Though outdoor recreation is still permitted under the governor’s Stay Safe/Stay Home directive, we recommend that people maintain a distance of at least 6 feet.

Be extra cautious to avoid injuries outdoors. We are working with our hospital systems to conserve as much personal protective equipment as possible in case of hospitalizations.

Most outdoor injuries can be prevented. Know the conditions and know your limits so you don’t end up in a hospital.

Recent Activity

We did not hear of any avalanche reports in the Provo mountains, but I suspect that they just haven't been reported.

Snow and Weather

We have mostly cloudy to overcast skies across the range this morning as a weak, splitting storm system moves through. Mountain temperatures are in the mid to upper 20s Winds are hardly a whisper.

I wouldn't rule out a few snow showers here and there today that may add up to an inch or two. Temps will rise to the mid 20s up high today, the mid 30s down low. Looking down the road, we have a storm passing to the north on Tuesday that might be good for a 4-8" refresher, favoring the Ogden and Logan area mountains...and generally unsettled weather beyond that.

Riding conditions remain quite good in the usual wind and sun sheltered terrain.
