Kernpunkte

The general avalanche hazard is Moderate above 9,000 feet and Low below that elevation. At the higher elevations, the chance continues to trigger deep instabilities in the snowpack in a few steep avalanche paths. Avalanches below 9,000 feet are not expected today.

Layers of weak faceted snow are buried in the snowpack. At the upper elevations, hard slab avalanches with depths to three feet could be triggered by snowmobilers in steep, avalanche-prone slopes that face north through southeast.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )A small amount of snow is expected overnight with a better batch of moisture impacting the area Sunday. This system is arrive mid morning. By evening, approximately four inches of snow could fall at the higher elevations. Rain or a mix of rain and snow is expected in the valleys. Mountain temperatures are to reach the mid-thirties where southwest winds with fifteen to twenty five mile per hour winds are expected. The general avalanche hazard is to be Low in the Teton area where isolated pockets of shallow wind slab could be triggered in steep cliff areas and couloirs at higher elevations. In the Togwotee Pass and Southwest Trails areas the danger will remain Moderate above 9,000 feet where a slight chance to trigger hard slabs on persistent weaknesses persists on some avalanche starting zones. Avalanche hazard involving the potential new snowfall is not expected. Below 9000 feet avalanches are not expected.
