Kernpunkte

The general avalanche hazard is MODERATE. Areas of unstable snow persist on steep, wind-loaded aspects. Humans who venture onto steep, avalanche-prone slopes could trigger dense surface slab avalanches one to three feet in depth. In some areas these slabs may have the potential to step down into older, deep layers of weak, faceted snow.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )A Pacific low pressure trough and cold front will move into western Wyoming late Monday night with snow becoming widespread across the mountains through Tuesday. The snowfall will favor the Tetons which are expected to have a few inches of accumulation by Tuesday morning then up to six more during the day. The Southwest Trails/Greys River mountains should expect two to four inches of snow and the Togwotee Pass area three to five inches by evening. Temperatures will fall to the upper teens overnight then climb to the upper 20s during the day. Winds will be southwesterly at 25 to 30 miles per hour.Cool temperatures should reduce or eliminate the chance of wet-loose or wet slab avalanches for Tuesday. New snow and strong winds will create an increasing chance for humans to trigger soft slabs on lee slopes and sloughs on slick sun crusts on many aspects. North facing slopes at upper elevations still hold some potential for people to trigger deeper slabs to three feet in depth in steep areas. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be Moderate.
