Loose wet avalanches will start at a point (often your feet) and fan out to collect snow as they travel downhill. They will most likely occur in pockets of previously softer snow, although they can happen anywhere as hours of above freezing temperatures melt existing surface crusts. Most will be less than a foot thick, but are deceptively powerful. They are incredibly difficult to escape once they grab ahold of your skis and can easily carry you where you don't want to go. If the snow surface feels like a loose slurry of snow and water, move to lower angle slopes to minimize this hazard.
