For the most part, the avalanche danger is LOW on the Skyline today.

There is a MODERATE danger rating in the upper elevation northwest through southeast facing terrain due to fresh wind drifted snow.

Recent deposits of wind drifted snow may be sensitive to the weight of a person. Human triggered avalanches are possible in this terrain.

    Todays Wind Drifted Snow avalanche problem should be pretty easy to identify and avoid. The problem will be located along the higher ridges on northwest through east facing slopes. Look for fresh cornices, fresh drifts, "pillowy" looking slabs of snow and avoid them if they are on steep slopes. Watch for cracking which will tell you if the new snow is sensitive.

    Avalanches involving the new snow won't be very large today. You're biggest concern is them knocking you around enough to cause injury.

Snow and Weather

Current Conditions: The Skyline has picked up 2 to 4 inches of snow overnight with the northern end fairing the best. It looks like the snow should be medium density, not near as dense as last week's storm. Temperatures have been in the low to mid 20s overnight. There's been a bump in wind speeds and it's gotten a little gusty for a few hours overnight with wind from the southwest. Riding conditions have been good but today's snow refresh is needed. Mountain Weather: We should see periods of snow through the day today with another 4 to 8 inches possible. Temperatures are going to get into the upper 20s to around 30˚F. Wind from the southwest should slow and be generally light for most of the day. We'll have another period of snow late Tuesday into Wednesday. Another period of snow should happen on Thursday. The weather pattern remains active through the end of the month with more chances for snow.
