You can trigger an avalanche where you find new wind-drifted snow forming cohesive slabs at upper elevations. Avalanches will be larger in areas of deeper drifts on northwest to north through east-facing slopes. Drifted snow may look wave-like or have a lens shape. Cracking or collapsing in recent snow or avalanches on similar slopes indicate instability and are signs to move to lower-angled slopes sheltered from the wind.
Strong sunshine and warmer temperatures on Sunday increase the chances of loose wet avalanches. Avoid traveling on or under sunny slopes during the heat of the day and watch for pinwheels and rollerballs as an early warning sign of unstable snow.
