Avalanche Summary

An Avalanche Watch is in effect for the Park Range. New snow and strong winds will create very dangerous avalanche conditions starting Thursday night and lasting through Saturday. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended during this time.

You can trigger an avalanche in drifted snow at upper elevations. Soft drifts over 8 inches deep, or hard drifts that support your weight are the most suspect. If you see cracking in the surface snow, that's a sign you could trigger an avalanche. Look for and avoid drifted pillows directly below ridges and in gullies. Look for wind-sheltered slopes or slopes less than about 35 degrees for safer riding.
