At the mid and upper elevations, backcountry travelers could trigger pockets of surface slab to two feet in depth on steep, wind loaded slopes. Yesterday, a ten inch wind slab was released with a ski cut in a steep, north facing chute in Granite Canyon. Similar events are possible today. At the lower elevation the snowpack is mostly stable and avalanches are unlikely.

As the day progress, expect cloud cover and the chance for light, scattered snow showers to increase. Overnight lows in the mountains will be near zero before rising into the mid teens during the day. Northwesterly ridgetop winds will back to the west and increase to 20 to 30 miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE on Monday. Skiers and riders could trigger wind slabs up to two feet deep in the Teton and Southwest Trails areas. These slides will be more likely to fail on slopes that developed good sliding surfaces below the recently formed wind slabs. Evaluate the snowpack carefully and avoid terrain where this combination exists. Conditions are similar in the Togwotee Pass area, but with slab depths to eighteen inches.
