Kernpunkte
Areas of unstable snow exist. At the upper elevations soft wind slabs up to 18 inches deep lie upon slick old snow surfaces. These slabs were formed by southwest winds and could be triggered by a the weight of a single person. At the mid and lower elevations these slabs can be found in isolated pockets in steep avalanche starting zones. Increasing temperatures may increase the sensitivity of these slabs to human triggers. Evaluate snow and terrain carefully and identify and avoid areas of concern.
Avalanche Discussion
A south flow will continue to bring periods of light snowfall to the mountains. On Saturday skies will be overcast. Some light snowfall is likely but only an inch or two of accumulation is expected. Mountain temperatures will rise into the upper 20s to low 30s from overnight lows in the lower teens. Winds will be southerly at 15 to 20 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE at the higher elevations (9,000 to 10,500 feet). Soft surface slabs up to 18 inches deep exist and could be triggered by the weight of a single person on very steep wind loaded slopes. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW below an elevation of 9,000 feet.
