Kernpunkte

The primary concern for Sunday will be wet loose avalanches on steep sun exposed slopes, especially during the warmest time of the day. Look for visual clues, such as roller balls and pinwheels, that indicate the surface snow is warming and loosing cohesion. Use timing and aspect to decrease your likelihood of triggering and/or getting caught in a wet loose avalanche.

    On Sunday the high temperature is expected to be in the mid 40s fahrenheit! 

    As the snow warms in the direct sun it will loose cohesion. When this happens, triggering a wet loose avalanche will be possible. They could also be larger and entrain more snow than our typical wet loose avalanches. The largest avalanches will be in sustained steep terrain that will allow snow to run for long distances. Steep gullies and constricted areas are also features that could produce larger avalanches. 

    Keep an eye on the snow surface and monitor how the conditions are changing.  If you see the surface snow becoming wet/slushy, or observe signs such as roller balls and pinwheels, then wet loose avalanches are becoming possible. Use timing and aspect to manage the wet loose problem and if necessary move to lower angle terrain or an aspect with less direct sun.
