Kernpunkte

At the highest elevations strong southwest to west winds have formed isolated pockets of wind slab in steep, avalanche starting zones. These small pockets of slab could be up to a foot deep and could be triggered by a person. Small slides can be dangerous in extreme terrain. Above freezing temperatures and rain showers will be increasing the wet snow avalanche hazard. Monitor conditions and avoid steep terrain features in areas where the snowpack is wet and unconsolidated.

    Temperatures at the lower elevations have been mostly above freezing for multiple days and were well above freezing overnight. Rain showers are possible below an elevation of 9,000 feet and are forecast to become more prevalent in the afternoon. Wet loose and wet slab avalanches are possible on steep terrain features. In areas where the snowpack is shallower these slides could gouge down to the ground. Natural wet snow avalanche activity is possible, especially in areas that receive heavy rain showers.

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )On Monday a Pacific weather system will continue to bring light snowfall to the mountains and rain showers below an elevation of 7,500 feet. In the mountains temperatures will be in the mid-20s overnight and will rise above freezing during the day. Valleys are expected to remain above freezing and rise into the 50s. Southwesterly to westerly ridgetop winds will be 20 to 30 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard above 7,500 feet is expected to be low Monday morning. Depending on cloud cover, the sun could cause conditions to become unstable as weak crusts will quickly break down. Warm temperatures and valley rain will create wet snow avalanche hazards below an elevation of 7,500 feet.
