The early season snowpack is mostly stable. Isolated pockets of shallow slabs may exist in very steep wind loaded terrain at the high elevations. Be cautious of the hazards involved with low snow depths. Below 7500', slopes are barely covered, therefore the avalanche danger is not rated.Special Notice: Uphill hiking or skiing will not be permitted at Grand Targhee Resort for safety reasons as they prepare to open the ski area on Friday November 16th.

Dry weather with little cloud cover is expected through Thursday night. Temperatures will drop into the teens overnight and warm into the 30s in the mountains and into the 40s in the valleys on Wednesday. Light northwest winds will back towards the southwest overnight and then veer to the west and increase to 15 to 20 miles per hour with higher gusts by Wednesday evening. Our shallow, early season snowpack is right side up and mostly stable. Isolated areas of instability may persist on very steep, shaded slopes that face north and are higher than 9,000 feet above sea level. That instability is associated with a layer of faceted snow that sits upon an early October melt-freeze crust. The general avalanche hazard is LOW.
