Avalanche Activity

New snow and wet snow require caution. Especially in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation large natural avalanches must be expected.

As a consequence of new snow and a sometimes strong wind from southerly directions, sometimes large wind slabs formed in the last three days adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas as well as above the tree line. Here they will increase in size additionally until Sunday. They can be released easily or naturally in all aspects. During the day: Natural avalanches are further to be expected. The avalanches can be released in the new snow and wind slab layers and reach large size in some cases. As a consequence of the precipitation moist and wet avalanches are possible. Avalanches can reach valley bottoms and in some places endanger exposed transportation routes.

Snowpack Structure

Saturday: Above approximately 2100 m more snow fell. This applies in particular in the afternoon. Here rain fell up to 2000 m. The southerly wind has transported the new snow significantly. In some places new snow and wind slabs are lying on soft layers. The upper section of the snowpack is unfavourably layered. Sunday: Above approximately 2200 m 30 to 60 cm of snow will fall. The sleet will give rise to a loss of strength within the snowpack below approximately 2400 m.

Tendency

Dry and moist avalanches are possible in some places. The avalanches can reach the valleys and in some places endanger transportation routes that are exposed.
