Avalanche Activity

There is a danger of falling on the icy crust.

The greatest danger remains slipping on hard snow, so it is advisable to carry snow knives and crampons for the steepest sections. The hard wind slabs can be released in isolated cases at their margins. Especially transitions into gullies and bowls places that are protected from the wind, in particular on extreme slopes at high altitude.

Snowpack Structure

Snow depths vary greatly at high altitude, depending on the infuence of the wind. In particular on sunny slopes a little snow is lying in all altitude zones. Also adjacent to ridgelines hardly any snow is lying. As a consequence of the strong to storm force wind, a crust formed on the surface. This applies above approximately 2600 m. The snowpack is stable and its surface has a melt-freeze crust that is strong in many cases. This applies below approximately 2600 m.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will persist.
