Avalanche danger below the treeline is low, above that altitude danger is moderate. Avalanches prone locations are found esp. on north-facing slopes where small-to-medium slab avalanches can be triggered even by the weight of one sole person. Isolated naturally triggered loose-snow avalanches are still possible.

The E/S winds deposited snowdrifts on north-facing slopes. The drifts lie deposited mostly atop a melt-freeze crust. Bonding of the cold layer to the warm melt-freeze crust on top of it is poor. The ground level layer is moist up to high altitudes.

In the western Northern Alps and at high altitudes in the Niedere Tauern, weal SE winds will permit more sunshine. Elsewhere, clouds and fog dominate up to over 2000 m, visibility is reduced. Along the rimline ranges, a bit of minor snowfall is possib le. Moderate SE winds. Temperatures rising. At 2000 m: -5 degrees on Zirbitzkogel; -3 degrees on the Grimming.

In Northern Alps on Thursday, some sunshine, elsewhere clouds and fog will continue to dominate, poor visibility. In some places at some times, a bit of minor snowfall. Moderate S/SE winds, in northern regions there will be foehn. At 2000 m: -2 degree. No significant change is expected.
