We are entering a freeze-thaw cycle. For a safe and enjoyable outing, start early in the morning and avoid slopes that become overly heated by the sun.
The collapse of cornices can trigger larger wet loose snow avalanches. Cornices are found primarily on the southeast, south, and southwest slopes of Mount Albert.
With warm temperatures and sunshine, small wet loose avalanches may occur, either naturally or triggered by skiers, on steep south-facing slopes. Watch for signs of instability: if, while travelling on foot, you sink into the snow up to your ankles, conditions are becoming favourable for wet loose avalanches.
Pay particular attention near cliff bands and terrain traps, where even a small avalanche can have serious consequences.
No new avalanches have been observed or reported.

In alpine terrain and at treeline, the snowpack is gradually transitioning toward an isothermal state. Below treeline, this process is complete, and you can easily sink up to your waist when you remove your travel equipment.
The snowpack continues to melt below treeline.
At mid-mountain, the average snowpack depth is around 90 to 120 cm.

Wednesday: Cloudy with a chance of rain in the afternoon. Southwesterly winds from 40 to 60 km/h. High of +6°C. Freezing level at 2500 m.
