The majority of the terrain along the Skyline has a LOW to MODERATE avalanche danger. Keep in mind that the conditions are more dangerous on slopes approaching 40 degrees in steepness on northwest, north and northeast facing slopes where there is old weak snow present on the ground from October. The snowpack is slowly gaining strength but the wise backcountry user continues to use caution on the high north slopes.
The high elevation north facing location I visited on Monday still has some faceted snow near the ground. However, the condition of the weak sugar snow near the ground is improving and is currently gaining strength. I'm still holding my cards tight but there is no doubt that the persistent weak layer avalanche problem is improving.
An unstable northwest flow at the tail end of the storm produced 6 to 7 inches of low density powder. Snow showers lasted through most of Monday although didn't accumulate a whole lot. Temperatures were cold only getting into the low teens along the upper elevations. Wind was fairly light from the northwest.
