Avalanche Activity

Heavy storm! Some drifts in bowls and distant from ridgelines

Avalanche danger above the treeline is MODERATE. Isolated avalanche prone locations from fresh drifts are found in steep wind-loaded zones (gullies, steep bowls, forest clearances, etc.) and in W/S/E facing terrain distant from ridgelines.

Snowpack Structure

Due to storm winds the terrain is starkly windblown. Hardened crusts lie immediately adjacent to easily recognized snowdrift accumulations in wind-protected terrain (forest rims, bowls). The drifts often lie atop weak layers and melt-freeze crusts.

Weather Synopsis

Heavy storm on Saturday (60-100 km/hr). Some snow showers will pass through, some sunshine further south. New snow in 24 hours: 0-10 cm. Temperature at 2000 m: -7 degrees. On Sunday, sunshine, but still windy (though not as stormy). Temperatures will remain unchanged.

Tendency

Little change
