Avalanche Activity

Possibility of wet loose snow and glide snow avalanches due to daytime warming.

As the day progresses the avalanche danger rises from low to moderate. Main problem: wet snow. As a result of increasing warming small to medium-sized wet loose snow avalanche can trigger naturally in extremely steep terrain with still enough snow. In addition, glide snow avalanches are possible on steep slopes with smooth ground. Glide cracks are red flags of this risk.

Snowpack Structure

Increasing cloudiness during the night leads to the formation of a thin melt-freeze crust that warm temperatures during the day swiftly soften again. Moistness or wetness of the snowpack progresses, thus enhancing loose snow avalanches and gliding movements of snow masses. Up to high intermediate altitudes not much snow left.

Tendency

Thaw and wet snow during the rest of the week.
