Wind-slab may build later today with a strengthening southerly. Be careful in and around complex terrain.

Recent Avalanche Activity

No recent activity across our region. Snow pit tests in several areas have identified some propagation results. Nothing to be concerned about at present. It does tell us weak layers exist and will need monitoring.

Current Snowpack Conditions

The snowpack has had a big reset. Moist snow has refrozen resulting in benign conditions. Typically, 5 to 10 cms of light snow over a firm base. Where the cloud may have been sitting on the snow a thin rime crust may exist.

Mountain Weather

Another great day ahead, perhaps a few clouds late afternoon. Winds from the S becoming moderate during the afternoon. The freezing level rising slowly to around 1300 m.

Sliding Danger

The base of the snowpack is certainly slick. Be mindful of steep terrain, especially where the base has been exposed. If you have ski crampons, add them to your kit. Then you'll be prepared for anything you may encounter.

Forecast Confidence

High

  • The snowpack structure is well understood.
  • We are confident due to a stable weather pattern.
