Avalanche Activity

The fresh snow and the wind slabs represent the main danger.

The new snow will become increasingly prone to triggering in particular on steep shady slopes above approximately 2000 m. In particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation more frequent small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized avalanches are possible as a consequence of new snow and wind. As a consequence of the precipitation the avalanche prone locations will become more prevalent as the day progresses.

Snowpack Structure

The snowfall gave rise to unfavourable bonding of the snowpack over a wide area in particular on very steep north, northeast and northwest facing slopes above approximately 2000 m. The weather conditions will give rise to softening of the snowpack. This applies in particular below approximately 1700 m. As a consequence of snowfall above approximately 2000 m and the southerly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form in the course of the day. These are prone to triggering.
