Avalanche Activity

The fresh snow as well as the wind slabs represent the main danger.

The fresh snow of Sunday as well as the wind slabs to be found above all in gullies and bowls and behind abrupt changes in the terrain can be released naturally in particular on steep sunny slopes. Small and medium-sized natural avalanches are possible. The fresh wind slabs have formed in particular in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain. These can in isolated cases be released, even by a single winter sport participant. In the regions exposed to precipitation and on wind-loaded slopes the avalanche danger is a little higher. Large-grained weak layers exist in the old snowpack on near-ridge shady slopes. Weak layers in the lower part of the snowpack can be released in very isolated cases by people here.

Snowpack Structure

The new snow and wind slabs of Sunday are lying on a crust in all aspects. Individual weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. In all altitude zones only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
