Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs represent the main danger.

The wind slabs of the last few days can be released, especially by large additional loads, in particular on steep shady slopes above the tree line. Especially in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas small and, in isolated cases, medium-sized avalanches are possible. As a consequence of warming during the day, the likelihood of moist and wet avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on steep sunny slopes above the tree line.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of a strong wind from northerly directions, wind slabs formed since Sunday above the tree line. The strong wind has transported the new snow significantly. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in gullies and bowls, and behind abrupt changes in the terrain and adjacent to ridgelines and in pass areas. Wind slabs are clearly recognisable. The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften during the day.

Tendency

Up to 15 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, will fall.
