It will be warmer today. The wet snow avalanche hazard will increase as the day warms. Shallow wet loose slides are possible on very steep sunlit aspects during the warmest portion of the day. At the highest elevations isolated pockets of shallow wind slab up to a foot in depth lie upon hard old snow surfaces and could be triggered by humans in steep couloirs, chutes and cliff areas. Even small slides can be dangerous in terrain with consequences.

A strong cold front will pull into Western Wyoming this evening and quickly sweep though the area by 3 am. This system will bring colder air into the region and be accompanied by strong winds. Snowfall is expected to be limited. The northern portion of our forecast region may receive a trace to an inch or two. Winds will back from the southwest to the northwest at current speeds and weaken by sunrise. It will be dry on Sunday with mostly sunny skies. Temperatures will be in the single digits and teens in the morning and rise into the upper teens to mid-30’s. Colder conditions will decrease the wet snow avalanche hazard. Dry snow avalanche hazards will be limited to isolated terrain features at the highest elevations. Up there, small pockets of shallow wind slab could knock a person over and carry them down very steep terrain features.
