SC 04.01.22 Unstable deposits continue to form, mostly sheltered terrain on NE through SE to S aspects above 900m. Ava haz Moderate.

Forecast Snow Stability: New snowfall with drifting will continue development of unstable windslab mainly on North-East through South-East to Southerly aspects above 900 metres. Sheltered terrain such as gully tops and scarp slopes will be most affected. Elsewhere, isolated drifts will build but general snow cover will be thin or scoured where exposed to the strong winds. The avalanche hazard will be Moderate.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Remaining cold with light snow showers at all levels. Winds strengthening from the North-West, becoming severe gale force by the end of the afternoon. Observed Weather Influences: New light snowfall above 500 metres overnight with clouds clearing to give a bright afternoon. Much colder than recent days, -4.2 degrees celsius around 900 metres at midday. Winds were fresh, initially North then North-North-West. ObservedSnowStability: There has been new snowfall throughout the area above 600 metres. The higher hills along the Northern boundary of this forecast area have been most affected with deeper accumulations forming in sheltered terrain on North through East to South-East aspects above 900 metres. Elsewhere, there was a light covering of new snow. Old snow is very firm and icy. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
