Avalanche Activity

TOR for 6.3.23 Old snow patcthes firm and well bonded. Minor pockets of windslab over bare ground on SE to SW aspects. Av Haz Low.

Forecast Snow Stability: The patchy old snow on North to East aspects above 800 metres will remain well bonded. New snow will begin to accumulate, primarily on bare ground on South-East to South-West aspects above 600 metres. Small pockets of moderately bonded windslab will form in sheltered locations. These will be limited in extent and where any accumulations overlie the remaining old snow any patches will be avoidable. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: There will be snow showers, occasionally heavy throughout the forecast period. Overnight the snow will be above 600 metres, during the day snow will fall to road level in Torridon. Moderate North-Westerly initially will veer Northerly during the night becoming very strong and remaining so during daylight hours. The freezing level will be around 600 metres overnight, dropping to 200 metres by dawn. Observed Weather Influences: A predominantly dry day with light North-West winds. Freezing level around 900 metres. Persistent hill cloud cleared as the day progressed. ObservedSnowStability: Any patchy remaining old snow, mainly on North to East aspects above 800 metres is well bonded and firm underfoot. The avalanche hazard is Low.
