Kernpunkte

Wet snow avalanches will be possible at all elevations especially on slopes in the direct sun during the warmest time of the day. If you see the snow surface becoming wet and slushy, consider moving to more shaded slopes or lower angle terrain. Triggering avalanches in old wind drifts at the mid and upper elevations, is unlikely but still something to consider before entering steep and committing terrain.

    Existing wind slabs are trending to being non reactive but keep this problem in mind especially in steep lee terrain at the upper elevations. There may be isolated pockets of wind slab hanging on that could still be triggered. It is worth doing some evaluation before dropping into steep and consequential terrain. If you see active blowing snow, keep an eye on where isolated pockets of new wind slab are forming.

    Observe how the snow surface is changing throughout the day as the sun moves around the southerly aspects. Look for signs that this problem is developing such as the surface snow becoming wet and slushy, and roller balls or pinwheels coming down the slopes. If you observe a wet loose avalanche, that is also a good indicator that other avalanches can happen. Most wet loose avalanches will be small, but remember that even small avalanches can knock you off your stance in steep terrain and send you tumbling. If the surface becomes wet and slushy down to boot top depth or more, avalanches will have the potential to increase in size.

    Certain terrain features like the Broken Top bowl act like "solar collectors" and tend to concentrate the sun's energy and the snow surface could warm up a little more in this type of terrain. 

    There is some uncertainty related to this problem as to whether or not it will present itself. If you don't see the snow surface becoming wet/slushy then it is likely not a problem.

Avalanche Discussion

Be cautious when approaching ridetops that have cornices. As the day warms up they can weaken and break easily under the weight of a person. Also don't linger under them.
