Kernpunkte

At the upper elevations, skiers and riders could trigger pockets of shallow wind slab. These hard slabs are smooth and rounded and should be somewhat easy to identify and avoid. Mostly stable conditions exist at the mid elevations and on lower elevations slopes that remain snow covered.

    Small pockets of hard wind slab formed by northeast winds exist at the upper elevations. Humans who venture onto very steep slopes, into cliff areas or extreme terrain could trigger one of these slabs and be taken for a ride. The sensitivity of these slabs to human triggers will increase as the day progresses and temperatures warm.

Avalanche Discussion

A fast moving Pacific trough will bring snow shower activity to the region. Relatively light snowfall amounts are expected. Light snow fall should begin in the mountains after midnight. Accumulations of several inches are possible at the higher elevations by Thursday evening. Isolated afternoon rain showers are possible at the lower elevations. Temperatures will be in the 20s and 30s in the mountains and in the upper 20s to low 40s in the valley. Winds will be west to northwest at 10 to 20 miles per hour.The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW in the Teton, Continental Divide/Togwotee Pass and the northern portion of the Greys River/Southwest Trails areas. In these areas humans who venture into very steep terrain could trigger small pockets of windslab up to 18 inches in depth.The general avalanche hazard in the southern portion of the Greys River/Southwest Trains area is expected to be MODERATE. Winds slabs up to two feet in depth could be human triggered on steep slopes.
