The most dangerous and likely places to trigger an avalanche are on northeast through east to southeast-facing slopes near ridgelines and at upper elevations. Westerly winds will continue to load snow on these aspects around ridges and leeward terrain features. Use extra caution if you find more than a foot of new or drifted snow. You could possibly trigger a small avalanche in the new snow, or the added load could break deeper, creating a much larger slide. Seek out good snow in lower-angle, wind-sheltered terrain to lower your risk.
