Kernpunkte
At the mid and upper elevations, below an elevation of 10,500 feet, shallow slides comprised of loose wet snow and isolated pockets of shallow slab are possible in steep terrain during the warmest portion of the day. These events could become a hazard in cliff areas and on very steep slopes. Steep slopes and cliff areas should be avoided after snow surfaces become soft and unstable. Extensive areas of bare ground exist on east, south and west aspects below an elevation of 7,000 feet.
Avalanche Discussion
A warming trend will occur ahead of an approaching Pacific trough. Overnight temperatures are likely to drop into the upper 20s to low 30s under clear skies. Clouds will increase during the morning hours and there will be a chance of scattered rain and snow showers in the afternoon and into the evening. Daytime highs are expected to rise into the 40s and 50s. Winds will be from the north at 10 to 20 miles per hour. The snowpack is mostly stable however warm temperatures are expected to increase the hazard on very steep snow covered slopes. Snow surfaces are expected to freeze overnight but soften earlier in the morning than they did today. Wet slides are possible during the warmest portion of the day and pose a hazard to humans who venture onto very steep slopes and into cliff areas after significant warming has occurred. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW in the early morning hours and may increase to MODERATE.
