Weak layers of faceted snow are preserved in the snowpack. At the upper elevations, hard slab avalanches with depths to three feet could be triggered by snowmobilers on steep, avalanche-prone slopes.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )Dry conditions and mostly clear skies will continue on Sunday. Overnight lows in the mountains will be in the mid teens before rising into the mid 30s during the day. Westerly ridgetop winds will back to the southwest at 5 to 15 miles per hour. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE on Sunday. In the Tetons and Greys River areas, backcountry travelers might be able to trigger recently developed wind slabs with depths up to 30 inches. As the day warms, these slabs will become more susceptible to failure. On sunlit aspects, the chance for wet loose sluffs will also increase with daytime warming. In the Togwotee Pass forecast zone, the chance to trigger smaller wind slabs and wet loose sluffs will also increase during the day. There, a slight chance remains to trigger deep hard slabs failing on faceted snow that persists in the lower portion of the snowpack.
