The General Avalanche Hazard this morning is LOW at the high elevation and MODERATE at the low and mid elevations, and could rise through MODERATE to CONSIDERABLE during the day depending on the amount of sun impacting the snowpack. Overnight lows hovered near freezing at the high elevation, temporarily increasing stability, but remained above freezing at the mid elevation and below. Daily warming and sunshine will continue to melt the upper snowpack resulting in wet, loose surface slides, along with the possibility of deeper wet slabs. These slides may be started by backcountry travelers, snow falling off cliff areas, or cornice collapses.

The dirty ridge over the area will continue to break down tonight and Friday, as a low pressure system tracks Southeast from Canada. Tomorrow, expect partly cloudy skies becoming mostly cloudy by the evening before the next round of precipitation. Overnight lows are expected to dip into the high 20s in the mountains, and low 30s in the valley before rising to the upper 30s and mid 40s, respectively. Strong winds will continue out of the Southwest.AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:The General Avalanche Hazard tomorrow morning is expected to be LOW at higher frozen elevations and MODERATE below the freezing line, before rising as the day warms. Below freezing overnight temperatures will temporarily lead to a stabilizing trend at the upper elevations. The hazard will raise proportional to the amount of heat and sun absorbed by the snowpack during the day. Daily warming and sunshine will continue to melt the upper snowpack resulting in wet, loose surface slides, along with the possibility of deeper wet slabs. These slides may be started by backcountry travelers, snow falling off cliff areas, or cornice collapses.
