Kernpunkte

The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE. Backcountry travellers could trigger slab avalanches in very steep wind loaded avalanche prone areas. The generally shallow snowpack contains weak, faceted snow layers that are likely to be included if a slide is triggered, providing the potential for slab depths to be up to three feet in depth.

Avalanche Discussion

( Discussion is generated from the previous day's afternoon forecast. )The upper level flow is expected to back to the southwest and bring snow to the region. Snow is likely in the morning and will increase in intensity during the day. Ridge crest winds will be southwesterly at 25 with gusts to near 40 miles per hour. Mountain temperatures will rise in the upper single digits to mid teens. The general avalanche hazard is expected to be MODERATE. Strong southwest winds and new snow will form new soft slabs on leeward aspects and increase the load on existing instabilities. The potential to trigger slab avalanches will increase as the day progresses.
