Forecast Snow Stability: Overnight and through the day areas of unstable windslab will be deposited on sheltered locations on mainly North-West to North East aspects above about 800 metres. Sheltered locations on other aspects may be affected by cross loading. Fresh cornices will be unstable. However, exposed windward slopes will remain scoured and stable. The avalanche hazard will be Considerable.
Forecast Weather Influences: Storm force Southerly winds will become lighter during the day. Heavy snow overnight will ease through the day. The freezing level will rise to about 800 metres during the day. Observed Weather Influences: A dry day, sunny during the morning then cloudy in the afternoon. After a calm and frosty morning the Southerly wind strengthened and the freezing level rose to around 500 metres during the day. ObservedSnowStability: Little change is happening within the snowpack. In many locations it is firm, icy and stable. However, areas of moderately bonded windslab remain in some sheltered South-West through West to North aspects above 1000 metres. The distribution of this windslab is quite variable, with some of locations indicated holding little windslab. The avalanche hazard is Moderate.
