Avalanche Activity

As a consequence of new snow and wind a considerable avalanche danger will prevail.

15 to 50 cm of snow will fall above approximately 1400 m. In all regions the prevalence and size of the avalanche prone locations will increase. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular at the base of rock walls, and adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls. The wind slabs are bonding poorly with the old snowpack. They must be evaluated with care and prudence in all aspects. As a consequence of the precipitation, the likelihood of moist avalanches being released will increase gradually. They can be released and reach very large size.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area new snow. In all aspects the wind slabs have increased in size. Weak layers exist in the snowpack in particular on shady slopes. The weather conditions will give rise to moistening of the snowpack.

Tendency

The weather report and anticipated change in the avalanche danger are uncertain. We recommend that you consult the most recent avalanche bulletin.
