Avalanche Activity

Forecast Snow Stability: Generally good stability in all locations with the existing snowpack being firm and icy. Towards the end of the forecasting period, fresh isolated deposits of windslab will develop in wind sheltered terrain on Northerly aspects above 1000 metres. These are not expected to be extensive. The avalanche hazard will be Low.

Snowpack Structure

Forecast Weather Influences: Strong Westerly winds will back South and increase throughout Monday daytime to reach gale force. The freezing level will be around 600 metres overnight then increase to be above the summits by the end of the forecasting period. Light precipitation will commence early afternoon, initially falling as snow to around 800 metres, but quickly becoming confined to the highest summits. Observed Weather Influences: Morning drizzle cleared to leave a mostly dry day. Strong Westerly winds. The freezing level dropped from above the summits to around 900 metres. ObservedSnowStability: Good stability in all locations. The snowpack was soft initially becoming firmer as the freezing level dropped. The greatest extent of snow is above 950 metres around coire back walls, ridge flanks and the plateau. The avalanche hazard is Low.
