Avalanche Activity

Individual weak layers exist in the centre of the old snowpack above approximately 2500 m.

Weak layers in the old snowpack can be released especially by large additional loads especially above approximately 2500 m. This applies in particular at transitions from a shallow to a deep snowpack, and on very steep slopes at intermediate and high altitudes. In the event of an overcast night caution is to be exercised. In particular at low and intermediate altitudes and in steep rocky terrain individual mostly small moist and wet avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. Early morning: There is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface.

Snowpack Structure

The surface of the snowpack will freeze to form a strong crust and will soften earlier than the day before. Especially steep west, north and northeast facing slopes high altitudes and the high Alpine regions: Weak layers exist in the old snowpack. In the vicinity of peaks snow depths vary greatly, depending on the infuence of the wind.
