Avalanche Activity

The wind slabs of the last few days must be evaluated with care and prudence. The prevalence of avalanche prone locations and likelihood of triggering will increase as the day progresses.

The snowpack will be subject to considerable local variations over a wide area. The avalanche prone locations are to be found in particular adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls above the tree line. The wind slabs can be released, especially by large additional loads, in all aspects at elevated altitudes. As a consequence of warming during the day, the likelihood of natural moist avalanches being released will increase gradually in particular on steep sunny slopes below the tree line. Medium-sized and, in isolated cases, large avalanches are possible.

Snowpack Structure

The wind slabs are lying on weak layers. In steep terrain there is a danger of falling on the hard snow surface. The solar radiation will give rise as the day progresses to significant moistening of the snowpack.

Tendency

Over a wide area further warming to the high Alpine regions.
