Avalanche Activity

The large quantity of fresh snow as well as the often deep wind slabs represent the main danger. Without question, it is inadvisable to engage in backcountry touring.

In all aspects large and, in many cases, very large avalanches are possible as a consequence of the precipitation. Gliding avalanches are possible in particular on steep grassy slopes. The new snow and wind slabs can be released by a single winter sport participant in all aspects. Exposed parts of transportation routes can be endangered in some localities in particular in the regions exposed to heavier precipitation.

Snowpack Structure

As a consequence of snowfall and the strong southwesterly wind, fresh snow drift accumulations will form. The large quantity of fresh snow as well as the wind slabs that are forming in all aspects are bonding poorly with the old snowpack.

Tendency

Some snow will fall over a wide area.
