Avalanche Activity

New snow and wind slabs above the tree line.

In particular in the regions with a lot of snow and on sunny slopes more small and medium-sized dry and moist avalanches are possible as a consequence of warming during the day and solar radiation. These can be released, even by small loads in isolated cases or triggered naturally. As a consequence of the moderate wind, the snow drift accumulations have increased in size during the last few days. They have formed adjacent to ridgelines and in gullies and bowls in all aspects and generally at elevated altitudes. In particular above approximately 2200 m,: The more recent wind slabs are to be bypassed in particular in very steep terrain.

Snowpack Structure

Over a wide area 30 to 50 cm of snow, and even more in some localities, fell in the last five days. The snowpack will be well bonded below approximately 2000 m. In isolated cases new snow is lying on a hard crust. In all regions only a small amount of snow is lying for the time of year.
