Salt River and Wyoming Ranges

The General Avalanche Hazard is MODERATE today. Strong West-Southwesterly winds and new snow have resulted in surface slabs to two feet in depth at the higher elevaions. These slabs lie upon hard snow surfaces and slick crusts and small pockets of slab may be triggered by backcountry riders and skiers in very steep wind loaded avalanche terrain today.

Winds should lower overnight and are expected to be between 10 and 20 mph during the day Friday.AVALANCHE HAZARD FORECAST FOR THE TETON, TOGWOTEE PASS, AND SOUTHWEST TRAILS AREAS:If winds and snowfall taper off overnight and little snow is recieved the avalanche hazard is expected to be LOW at low and mid elevations and MODERATE at upper elevations where pockets of soft slabs could be triggered in very steep avalanche terrain.Backcountry users are advised to consult area specific forecasts issued every morning as new information may become available and unexpected weather can change conditions.
