Northern San Juan

Most slopes are safe for travel, but you might be able to trigger a small avalanche where you find deeper drifts of new snow on slopes with previous snow cover. Recent snowfall landed mostly on bare ground, except for where old firm snow lingered in isolated pockets on shady, north-facing slopes above 12,000 feet. Pay attention if you find new snow that easily shears off slick surfaces, and avoid traveling on drifted pockets of snow that crack beneath you.
